MIP Hippotherapy
MIP has granted hundreds of Hippotherapy and therapeutic horseback riding scholarships since 2002. These therapeutic disciplines have proven to be an effective tool in building physical strength, neuromuscular function, communication skills, confidence, focus and more.
Depending on an individual’s needs, a specialized riding program is developed. In some situations, therapeutic horseback riding is chosen to utilize specific strategies from various equine activities while teaching riding skills to the individual. In other circumstances where neuromuscular and other functions can be positively affected, Hippotherapy (which translates to “treatment with the help of the horse”) is employed. Hippotherapy embraces the gait of a horse and combines elements of physical, occupational and/or speech therapy to provide strategic motor and sensory input to a person with movement and other functional issues. In Hippotherapy, the horse influences the person with its movements while therapists direct treatment according to the individual’s particular strengths and weaknesses. Whichever therapy promotes the best outcome, the result is an enjoyable, yet therapeutic approach to achieving functional goals.
As needed, lifts are available at most facilities to assist riders with transfer issues.
